Sixty-Seven AA Batteries
I like to admire you.
Fingers flitting over tempered steel cheekbones,
the cold jut of your jaw
(sharp enough to draw blood)
thumb pressing into the dent on your chin,
and your lips - solid and silent.
Fine, arched eyebrows of copper wire
over LED-blue eyes.
They blink at me in the dark
as I lay my head on your tin-can chest.
Even though I press my face close
and listen for a long time,
so long my cheek feels numb and tingly,
I hear nothing.
Silence curls in the whorl of my ear
and disappointment beats where my heart should.
Perhaps if I lay here long enough,
wish it harder,
you’ll warm to me.
